Premium Themes Contest Update

Gentle Reminder: Reporting your Entries will not be done here. Please head on to the Contest Post: Win Premium Themes! Join Now!

The contest is almost over! I know you guys are excited to win! I have mentioned on the Comment section of the contest post that I have found an easier way to pick the winners and give them a chance to choose the Premium Themes they want. Therefore, I am using the Points System. This way.. those that really deserve to win will be rewarded. I know you guys will agree that this is so much better than just randomly choosing winners. *hint* There is one advantage I can think of in using the Points System, you have total control of the contest, if you want to win then you simply earn points! You do not have to rely on luck anymore.. yey!

I have gathered the list based on the Comments/Report you have made. There are 30 Spots.. if you remain on the List you’re a winner already! I will email Winner#1 and let him/her choose the theme he/she wants, then I will take his/her chosen theme off the list. Winner#2 gets to choose next, then take his/her chosen theme off the list as well. . and so on. If your name is not on the list but have participated then that’s because you didn’t report your entries. If your entries are lacking, please feel free to clarify them to me. I have added more ways for you to earn points, if you have more suggestions, do not hesitate to tell me about it.

For those on the Top 30 already do protect your spot by gaining more points. For those who didn’t make it then I’m sure you already know what to do.. well, just keep reporting your entries here! Have Fun!!

Theme Support Now Available

Good News!

I am now providing Support for those who would like to use my themes but are quite having a hard time getting around it. I’d like you all to welcome Ahmed on the Support Section of this site. He blogs at wp-layout.com, obviously he is very much into WordPress armed with a year of experience on this cms. I found him very enthusiastic in becoming our “how-to-guy” on here so it was easy for me to choose him. He will take care of all your concerns and problems but please remember to go gentle on him, okay? He promises to give an hour or two a day just helping you out. Address him with his name, try not to flood him with useless questions.. be nice and friendly.. ;)

No registration needed. Just post your questions in the comment area.

WP Theme Designer’s Growth Report

May Stats

I do monitor my site’s growth.. the reason is that I want to know if I am headed at the right direction and if I have successfully followed my Goals. What is nice about this site is that.. right from the start, it has always exceeded my expectations. In fact, most of the time I am having a hard time catching up. But challenges like this keeps me on my feet and after all, that is always a good thing.

This site was online on April 13, 2008 and will be turning 2 months old next week.

Average Daily Visits = 500

Number of WordPress Theme Releases = 10 Themes

Lastly, I would like to inform you guys that I am currently looking for a “how-to” person that I could hire to provide Customer Support. I already have 3 people applying for the position but I simply want to make sure that I am going to hire someone that is friendly and helpful at the same time. I do know that I am not obliged to provide this service since I am not offering Premium Themes but I do feel guilty everytime somebody asks me how to customize or fix something on the theme. I am also uninstalling the forum and thought of a different and an easier way to handle and manage customer support. I will introduce him/her to everyone soon.. Hopefully, this will be a relief on my part so I can have more time focusing on my other projects and producing more Free Themes for you here, and indeed an advantage for all of you to finally have a buddy on here you can turn to, right?.. Lol. :D

By the way, I have finalized how we are going to pick winners for the Premium Themes Give-away Contest, more info on my next post.

Mistaken Identity and yet with Similar Goals

I’ve been asked a lot of times if I am Small Potato.. (obviously) the answer is no. I read this blog post today and felt the need to set things straight. I know where the confusion comes from.. our domain names. If you wish to know a little something about me though, you can visit my About page and simply call me ChiQ from now on.

However, I won’t deny that our goals are quite similar. I plan to offer as many Free WordPress Themes as I can and would love to run a similar “themes club” project later on than going for the usual route of selling Premium Themes. Other than that, I believe my personal identity isn’t important at all. My focus will remain on the BIG GOALS that I have set for this site and all the WordPress Themes I will be releasing for the WordPress Community.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who wished me well. As promised, I will be rockin’ and kickin’ again now that I feel better. I have an announcement to make this week, so stay tuned. Is it a fabulous contest? Am I giving away millions? or.. ahm.. uhmm… I am Small Potato? (ugh) .. What’s your guess?

I’m considering a gift for the entire family like a backyard wood swing set

Use plugins to Upgrade your WordPress Blog

My themes do not work for versions lower than WordPress 2.5 that is the reason why I get a lot of emails each day asking me why the theme isn’t working for them. I am surprised to know that a lot of you are quite afraid to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress. Maybe because you feel like you are not savvy enough to do this.. or are afraid of messing your blog?

Although manually upgrading your blog by following this step-by-step instruction from the wordpress codex site is easy to follow.. I would highly suggest using plugins to do the work for you.

First, make sure that you back-up your database. I personally use the WordPress DBManager plugin from Lester Chan. This plugin allows you to optimize database, repair database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database , drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Supports automatic scheduling of backing up and optimizing of database.

Next, download and activate the WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin by Keith Dsouza. Then that’s it.. upgrading to WordPress is that easy indeed!

By the way, the forum I have installed on this site is quite boring..so I think I’m going for bbPress to handle support questions. Sometimes it’s really tiring to answer the same questions over and over again. Do you guys have any suggestions in handling Support Questions?
