Step 2 – Creating Content Niche Sites: Choosing Your Niche

Take note that our aim here is to create Content Niche Sites and not Blogs. There is a big difference between the two. Blogs by nature requires constant updating and interaction with readers. While the Content Niche sites we want to create requires zero to no maintenance. In a Nutshell.. pick a Niche, build content, rinse and repeat to build a collection of Content Niche Sites.

How do you choose your Niche?

1. Personal Interest – Take a moment to think about the things you are interested at.. what do you like to read, watch or listen to. Try to list them down and determine those that have potential to be monetized such as relevant contextual ads or range of affiliate programs.

2. Google Adwords Keyword Tool

Website URL: Google Adwords External Keyword Tool

- This is a useful tool to generate keyword ideas but we are going to do more than that by figuring out those high paying keywords. I suggest that you enter a site that has a lot of original and varying content.

Adsense High Paying Keywords
Adsense High Paying Keywords Tool
- Enter Website URL
- Check the box to include other pages linked from the homepage
- Drop down box choose  “Show Estimated Avg CPC”
- Enter a high figure so as to get high paying keywords

3. Find out what is Hot in the Market

Finding out what these hot products are can leads to finding hot niches therefore I suggest you check out http://pages.ebay.com/sell/resources.html or http://sitepoint.com/marketplace browse around and see what people are buying. Also http://www.cbtrends.com/ which is a website that allows the ClickBank affiliates to see the “true” side of the listed in Marketplace products. Clickbank after all is the largest Affiliate Marketing site.

4. Keywords Online Tool / Online Trends

I know a lot of websites offering this service but allow me to recommend the following mainly because I use them myself.

- http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/
- http://buzz.yahoo.com/

Conclusion: The highest consideration you will have to take in choosing niches is if there are income streams from it.

Prepare for Step 3..

Great post. I also use http://www.google.com/trends for niche ideas on the latest searched keywords.

I wonder if you moderate your comments.

Such a feedback from “jessica” would not be ever accepted on my blogs. It just do not add any value to the blog community — what do you say Jessica, next time would you try do to better?

I hope so…

Great tips… thanks. I’d used a couple of those before to look for what’s hot right now but will definitely try those others.

This is the hardest part IMO, choosing a niche. I think the best advice is to choose what you love like if you like sports then choose that niche.

Well, this is better than part 1 if you ask me. I think many are struggling to find the right niche, let alone searching for the right keywords to use.

This article is useful for anyone who wants to move one step ahead from MMO. Yet another great stuff, ChiQ.

Many people often mix up with Niche and Category. For example, “dogs or dog lovers” are categories while “teach your dog how to bark” is a niche.

Great advice, and some really useful links.

Roll on part 3!

Good to know that this is about niche site and not blog. I’m looking for a way to earn without needing to update so often. :P

I am not too much into keywords, but I know a lot of people who check the search ranks of keywords before publishing every single post. Title optimizing on a daily basis is tiresome :)

Cheers,
Ajith

These are all the basic tools to validate niches. I also suggest going to the popular internet marketing forums and searching for threads on profitable niches.

Step-by-Step Internet Marketing

Great post, love the step-by-step. Choosing the right niche, I think, is half the battle. The right keywords can make or break you, unless proper research is done, results will be very minimal.

nice roundup of the tools needed to created a working niche site. From my point of view keyword research is especially important if you am to monetize your site for search engine traffic, when you are simply blogging about a certain topic you care about and love it’s pretty much not needed and word of mouth propaganda will work better.

A great niche that has been selling well from the beginning of the internet is custom t-shirts. The largest ebay powerseller started selling t-shirts and still as of this day selling t-shirts thousands per day. Wake up! Stop the 9-5! Open your eyes!

Sometimes the Google AdWords Keyword Suggestion Tool returns weird results… at least not accurate. That’s because plenty of scraper sites send queries to Google automatically (even when they’re opened by robots such as Googlebot or so). Then a search query which has really 0 or 100 monthly search volume can be shown as a query that’s searched by 100K people each month.

It’s always a risk.

I’ve used the Google keyword tool for a several years now, and I think its excellent

The more people that use this tool the better – We don’t want Google to drop it – like so many other things they tried and abandoned

Also if more site owners set up their sites using Google keyword tool their sites would be a lot more focussed and usable
